Comprehensive Wellness Examinations
Our Comprehensive Wellness Exams are performed on a semi-annual schedule. Regular wellness exams are critical to helping your pet live a longer, healthier life. Because dogs and cats age so much more quickly than humans, bringing your pet in for an exam only once a year is similar to you visiting your doctor every 7 years for a check-up! At your Comprehensive Wellness Exam we may recommend age-appropriate lab tests to detect possible problems in the early stages when treatments can have a higher success rate.
Customized Vaccination Schedules/ Vaccine Titer Testing
Vaccines and the over-vaccinating of our pets is a hotly debated subject. Although we at Three Rivers Holistic Veterinary Services believe that vaccination of our pets is important in preventing certain diseases that can be fatal, we also believe that annual re-vaccination may be excessive. A simple blood test may be recommended to measure the level of protective antibodies present in your pet. A personalized vaccination schedule for your pet will be devised using the most current data available pertaining to vaccines and their duration of protection.
Allergy Management
An enormous number of pets that live in our area of the country (both dogs and cats) suffer with allergies. The most common symptoms seen by owners are itchy skin, foot licking, and/or red, itchy ears. An extensive work up including testing to identify specific allergens may be done, as well as in depth discussion of the latest therapies (both conventional and alternative) to help manage this often frustrating problem.
Pain Management Program
Many animals suffer from painful conditions (including arthritis, cancer and several other afflictions). The use of advanced pharmaceutical therapies as well as more natural therapies are available and will be recommended based on your pets individual needs. Dr. Johanson will tailor a specific pain management protocol for your pet to make them as comfortable as possible and alleviate/manage their pain.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is very effective for treating a wide range of disorders including neurological problems (paralysis, seizures) and arthritis pain just to name a few. Treatments are usually started on a biweekly basis, and then tapered down to a maintenance schedule based on your animal's condition and response to treatment.
House calls
Home visits are available to the immediate Madison area. Many pets (both dogs and especially cats) thoroughly enjoy receiving their veterinary care in the comfortable surroundings of their own home.
Specialist Consultation
Like human medicine, veterinary medicine has become increasingly specialized. For cases requiring the services of a specialist, we are fortunate to have many excellent Board Certified specialists in our area. Specialty referrals include neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry, orthopedic surgery, oncology, dermatology and internal medicine. We will facilitate referrals to these specialists as needed.
